The interactive map shows County roads and stream culvert information in Snohomish County, Washington.

The map can be used to identify geographic features and display habitat and culvert conditions along County-maintained roads.

Instructions for using the interactive map

Available information:

The interactive map shows stream culverts that are on or adjacent to County-maintained roads. Information about habitat and culvert conditions can be displayed for each culvert.

The map is organized into layers that can be turned on or off as needed for improved viewing.

Map layers include:
  • Culverts
  • County Roads
  • Water features (rivers, streams, lakes)
  • City boundaries
  • County Road Atlas page grid
  • Aerial Photography (2007)
Note: some map layers are not visible when viewing maps of large areas.

The interactive map is provided by Snohomish County Public Works for information purposes only.

Map Navigation:

Choices listed on the green toolbar on the left side of the screen determine what happens when you click on the map.

For example, if you click on the word "Zoom In" on the green toolbar, you can zoom in by clicking on the map. Hint: You can control how close you zoom-in. Click-and-hold the mouse button, then move your mouse to draw a box on the map. A new map of the area inside the box will be drawn.

Users can move the map in any direction by using the "Move Map" tool. When "Move Map" is activated, click and hold the mouse or pointer over the map and move it up, down, or side-to-side. Release the button to redraw a new map.

Wait for the map to finish:

Drawing a map on your browser can take several seconds.

The map must finish drawing before the next click will be accepted.
Loading the map for the first time and locating an address take the longest time to complete. Hint: If you are not getting the results you expect, please send us a message.
 

View Culvert Info:

Information about stream culverts can be displayed by clicking the 'View Culvert Info' button, then clicking over a culvert symbol ( Graphic symbol used on map to show culvert location ) shown on the map.

A new browser window will be displayed with detailed information about the culvert including type, condition, and a link to PDF document with photos.Hint: you may wish to view the map at less than full screen on your monitor.

Browser compatibility:

A recent browser (Firefox, Netscape 4.5+, Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater) is recommended to view the interactive map.

In general, your browser must not block pop-up (new) windows, must show pictures, enable JavaScript, and be able to send unencrypted information (form data) over the Internet.

Refer to Snohomish County's browser compatibility and web site availability information.

Computer settings:

Some computer settings can prevent the interactive map from working correctly.
Common problems include:

  • Pop-up blockers
    Description: The interactive map doesn't launch at all; or new browser windows do not display when using 'Print Map'.
    What to do: If you have pop-up blocker software, allow County web pages to open new (pop-up) windows. For example, the Google toolbar allows pop-up windows if the CTRL key is held down when clicking a link.

  • Browser settings
    Description: The interactive map window doesn't finish loading, or is stuck on 'Retrieving Data' with no map displayed.
    What to do: Enable JavaScript, show pictures, enable nonencrypted form data to be sent, allow popup windows.

  • Hidden windows
    Description: The information window does not display on the second or third time clicking on the map.
    What to do: The window with feature information may be hidden behind the window showing the map. Keep both windows visible to facilitate viewing for either one.

  • Error messages
    Description: A browser error message appears when clicking on the map that says "Unable to display MapService".
    What to do: Close the interactive map browser window and delete Temporary Internet Files from your system. Internet Explorer can do this under the 'Tools > Internet Options...' menu. The error message should not reappear the next time you open the interactive map.

Bookmark / Favorites:

For quick access to this map, add this page to your favorites or bookmark list. Bookmarks to the interactive map directly may not work correctly.

Printing a Map:

For best results, choose 'Print Map' from the list of choices, located on the left side of the map. A new window with a map, legend, and title, suitable for printing will be displayed.

Printing directly from the interactive map window is not recommended and may print multiple pages (one for each frame), depending on your browser settings.
