This data was created by interpreting the original legal descriptions for each district. Copies of the legal descriptions were obtained from the county auditor. Drainage district boundaries are comiled from the following Snohomish County datasets: Assessor's Public Land Survey System grid, parcels, county digital elevation model, aerial imagery and the county water bodies dataset. Linework was taken from each of these datasets that corresponded with the legal description boundary calls to form the polygons for the districts' boundaries. In some cases the boundary calls were unclear and aerial photography was relied on for interpretation. Ambiguous legal description calls like "to the bank of the river" were held to match the linework representing those features in the aforementioned GIS datasets. This was done to preserve the utility of the dataset for analysis and cartographic purposes that are the primary reasons for the dataset's existence. Note that district 7 is actually a drainage and dike improvement district. It is included in this dataset because it is commonly referenced as Drainage District 7.
