<idPurp>The Snohomish County wetlands_model07 dataset was developed by the Snohomish County Conservation and Natural Resources – Surface Water Management Division as part of the Critical Area Regulation (CAR) program to comply with the State of Washington’s Growth Management Act (GMA). This model helps protect wetlands and their functions using the best available science.
The wetland model can be further improved by incorporating newer and higher-quality wetland data. Wetlands_model07 can be combined with GIS_FEATURES.GDBA.environmental_wetlands, GIS_FEATURES.GDBA.environmental_wetlands_nwi, and other site-specific wetland layers to support various planning and permitting projects.</idPurp>
<idAbs>

Snohomish County wetlands_model07 data set is a thematic layer depicting the modeled wetlands using various remote sensing data including LiDAR DEM, 2007 QuickBird satellite imagery, 2007-2008 PALSAR radar interferometry data, and various ancillary GIS layers (hydric soils, streamline data, etc.). LiDAR DEM is one of the most critical input data for the wetland model and was a compilation of multiple LiDAR sources collected in multiple years ranging from 2003 to 2006. The accuracy of LiDAR for some areas has known to be problematic, so does the final wetland products. The precise location of the wetland boundary must be determined by a site visit by a wetland biologist.

</idAbs>

<useLimit>

Forested wetlands were derived primarily from LiDAR-derived wetness probability index and error source in the wetness probability index is associated with the accuracy in forested wetland. Emergent and scrub/shrub wetlands can come from either high resolution satellite imagery alone or remote sensing-based model. Since high resolution satellite imagery was taken from July 31, 2007 –September 5, 2007, ground condition in that time span affected wetland model. Therefore, caution should be taken in agricultural land as there were various agricultural practices performed and ground condition was dry during the imaging time span. Wetlands at/near the subbasin boundary area are subject to having errors since the wetness index was developed by subbasin. There are few areas with cloud cover in the satellite imagery used for developing the land cover data. Wetlands under cloud cover deem to have error. In conclusion, Snohomish County wetland data may be useful for planning purposes but not for site-specific analysis.

All maps, data, and information set forth herein (“Data”), are for illustrative purposes only and are not to be considered an official citation to, or representation of, the Snohomish County Code.
