Current Urban Growth Boundaries within the Southwest Urban Growth Area of Snohomish County as of July 2, 2015 Amend. Ord. 14-129.
Summary:
The Urban Growth Area (UGA) data layer is maintained by the Planning & Development Services Department. UGAs are to include areas and densi-ties sufficient to permit the urban growth that is projected to occur in the county over the next twenty years. Growth Management Act (GMA), RCW 36.70A.210(2), requires the legislative authority of each county which is subject to the GMA’s comprehensive planning requirements to adopt a countywide planning policy (CPP) framework in cooperation with the cities and towns within that county, and from which the county, city and town comprehensive plans are developed and adopted.
UGAs are explained in the General Policy Plan (GPP), which is one of five parts of the Comprehensive Plan. The General Policy Plan consisting of goals and policies serves as a guide to the county’s growth and development from the present through 2035. The Future Land Use Map shows planned land uses and densities, urban growth area boundaries, and urban, rural, commercial agricultural and timber lands adequate for the expected population and employment growth through 2035. Zoning and development regulations implement these designations. The Transportation Element describes the County’s transportation system and provides policy direction for the development of roads and other transportation to serve the needs of the projected 2035 population. The Capital Facilities Plan contains an inventory of the county’s public facilities, establishes level of service standards necessary to support development, and prioritizes facilities needed to support the projected 2035 population.
