Of the land-based Public Transit providers in Snohomish County such as Community Transit (CT), Everett Transit (ET), and Sound Transit (ST), their online data depicting current transit ROUTES and/or STOPS is available for download. The "General Transit Feed Specification" (GTFS) is the industry standard data format for transit schedule data. A merged rendition of these data occurs after unpacking a .ZIP file, specifically, the ROUTES.TXT, STOPS.TXT, and TRIPS.TXT files. GTFS.org gives the following descriptions. STOPS are where vehicles pick up or drop off riders. Also defines stations and station entrances. Transit ROUTES. A route is a group of trips that are displayed to riders as a single service. Two fields from TRIPS.TXT, “direction_id” and “trip_headsign”, via the primary key "shape_id", were joined to this ".TRANSPORTATION__transit_routes" Feature Class.

These .TXT files are input sources for executing ArcGIS' geo-processing " GTFS" commands to transform into Feature Classes. An added field named "MERGE_SRC" tells the source of each feature. The "... _url" fields were generally calculated for CT, and ET, while ST provided more exact website URLs. FME/SAFE processes may be used to automate the workflow of auto-updates. For more information about GTFS documentation, please refer to https://gtfs.org, and refer to each of the Public Transit providers.

|
