snippet: Two separate two-dimensional HEC-RAS hydraulic models were developed, calibrated, and applied to evaluate hydraulic conditions throughout the Stillaguamish Watershed. One model covers the mainstem Stillaguamish River from the confluence of the North and South Forks to the mouth near Port Susan, and a second model covers the Forks of the Stillaguamish upstream of their confluence. Floodplain conditions were characterized within the study area for historical, mid-century (2040-2069), and late-century (2070-2099) time periods. For each time period, the calibrated model was run to produce flood depths, velocities, water surface elevations, and inundation extents, for the 2-, 5-, 10-, 25-, 50-, 100-, and 500-year flood events. description: The Snohomish County Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Surface Water Management Division (County) tasked Watershed Science and Engineering to characterize current hydraulic conditions along the Stillaguamish River and assess the impacts of projected climate change on flood depths and inundation extents across the floodplain. The study area included approximately 18 miles of the mainstem Stillaguamish River from its mouth near Port Susan to the confluence of the North and South Forks near Arlington, approximately 35 miles of the North Fork Stillaguamish River from the confluence to a location colloquially called “River’s End”, and approximately 5 miles of the South Fork Stillaguamish River from the confluence to Rivers Meadows County Park.
