Description: This dataset represents segments of water courses in Snohomish County that are associated with channel migration zones (CMZ). The CMZ-Rivers layer identifies the rivers and streams in Snohomish County where there is a possibility for channel migration to occur due to the forces of erosion and deposition (also referred to as the erosion hazard area). The areas adjacent to these rivers are potentially at a high risk of occupation by a river channel within next 100 years. The layer does not show the lateral extent of the channel migration zone, only the linear geographic extent where significant channel migration could occur. The detailed methodology for determining the lateral extent of the CMZ is contained in Section 2 of the Washington DNR Forest Practices Board Manual [WAC 222], adopted by reference in Section 30.62B.330(2)(a) SCC.

Description: Littoral drift, or shore drift, is the process by which beach sediment is moved along the shoreline. Drift results primarily from the oblique approach of wind-generated waves and can therefore change in response to short-term (daily, weekly, or seasonally) shifts in wind direction. Over the long term, however, many shorelines exhibit a single direction of net shore drift. Net shore-drift is determined through geomorphologic analysis of beach sediment patterns and of coastal landforms. Many shorelines can be divided into discrete littoral, or drift, cells, which are independent of one another and for which distinct sediment sources and sinks can be identified. This coverage denotes the extent of individual littoral cells and the direction of net shore-drift within each.

Description: SSURGO was acquired by Snohomish County DIS in April 2000. The data is a replacement for the county's original soils data set DNRsoils.SSURGO is a part of a national soils database known as Soil Survey Geographic. SSURGO is the most detailed level of soil mapping done by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), a branch of the USDA. SSURGO digitizing duplicates the original soil survey maps. This level of mapping is designed for use by landowners, townships, and county natural resource planning and management.
